NEW DELHI: With chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and some of his colleagues holding an indefinite protest at lieutenant governor’s office, leader of opposition Vijender Gupta and BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa and MP Parvesh Verma, in turn, started a protest outside the CM’s office on Wednesday.

They were accompanied by AAP rebel MLA Kapil Mishra. Gupta said they would continue the protest till Kejriwal and Co ended theirs.

They occupied the waiting room at the CM’s office on the third floor of the Delhi Secretariat around noon. Vijender Gupta said they had decided to “expose” the government as the Delhi CM and his ministers were “only trying to divert public attention from the real issues”. “Delhi is facing major water and power crises and the desilting of drains is yet to completed, but the CM and his cabinet ministers are sitting inside LG’s office for two days. If the government starts protesting, then who will do the work? Staging protests is the job of the opposition, not the government.

Their protest shows that they have no intent to work for the people,” Gupta said. “If cabinet ministers are sitting inside LG’s office, then it is obvious that work is getting affected. The CM and his ministers are trying to hide their failures,” he added.

Verma said Kejriwal had failed the people, especially the youth, who had been left dejected due to “poor conditions” of Delhi government schools, lack of colleges and sporting facilities, apart from other unfulfilled promises.

Earlier in the day, BJP Delhi president Manoj Tiwari, along with senior leaders and BJP councillors, took out a march from ITO to the secretariat against the Delhi government for “overlooking issues pertaining to the city”.
