NEW DELHI: British Airways’ Mumbai-London flight (BA 198) of Monday was diverted to Baku due to technical reasons. A passenger on the flight tweeted “smoke in first class” section of the plane led to the diversion.

A BA spokesperson said: “We apologise to our customers for the delay to their travels following a suspected technical issue with a flight from Mumbai to London. Engineers in Baku are checking the aircraft and we are awaiting more information about the situation.”

The flight took off from Mumbai at 5.14 pm on Monday a delay of over three hours from its schedule departure time of 1.15 pm. Sylvia Traginada, a passenger on this flight tweeted, saying: “First 3.5 hour delay in Mumbai due to snow in London. Now stuck in Baku due to technical fault (smoke in 1st class)… (not the best end to my holiday).”
