The EU official was referencing a comment made by Trump aide Peter Navarro, who shocked even the US President’s Republican colleagues when he called Trudeau a backstabber – over the issue of trade tariffs – and verbally consigned him to “hell” after a G7 meet in Canada over the weekend.
Top EU official Donald Tusk, no doubt harried after Trump’s belligerence at the meet – during which the US President also refused to sign a joint communique with the G7 members – wasn’t going to take this lying down. He tweeted a comment which directly referenced Navarro’s.
“There is a special place in heaven for @JustinTrudeau,” tweeted Tusk, who’s president of the European Council. “Canada, thank you for the perfect organisation of G7!”, he said further, about the meet hosted by Trudeau in Quebec.

To be sure, Navarro was merely following in the steps of his leader when cursing out Trudeau. Right after leaving the meet and Canada, Trump tweeted, “Justin acts hurt when called out!”. On Saturday, he called the Canadian prime minister “very dishonest and weak.” On Monday, he fired off a volley of tweets venting anger on NATO allies, the European Union and again, on Trudeau.
“Fair trade is now to be called fool trade if it is not reciprocal,” said Trump, who flew from Canada to Singapore on Sunday to prepare for the first-ever summit between a U.S. and North Korean leader.
“Sorry, we cannot let our friends, or enemies, take advantage of us on trade anymore. We must put the American worker first!”
At a rare solo news conference before heading to Asia, Trump said he pressed for the G-7 countries to eliminate all tariffs, trade barriers and subsidies in their trading practices. He reiterated his longstanding view that the US has been taken advantage of in global trade, adding, “We’re like the piggy
bank that everybody’s robbing, and that ends.”
