MUMBAI: A major fire was reported in a slum close to the eastern side of the Bandra railway station on Thursday. The incident took place during a demolition drive carried out by the BMC in the area.
Nine fire engines and seven water tankers were sent to the spot, Behrampada slum, after they received the call. The fire vehicles struggled hard to reach the spot due to traffic congestion and narrow road.
Firemen were struggling to control the fire. They are yet to confirm any injury in the incident. Slum dwellers have rushed out of their houses along with their belongings after the incident. They are standing near the railway station with their family members.
The Central Railway has suspended train services to Bandra-Andheri on Harbour line, which is sure to create a big problem for the people returning from Navi Mumbai and CST to western Suburb, in the evening.

The fire is very close to the FOB (Freight on Board) at station and near booking office.
Except for CSMT-Bandra and CSMT-Andheri locals which are suspended due to the fire incident near Bandra station, the Central Railway is operating services on CST-Panvel corridor services on the Harbour line.

No casualties have been reported so far, a fire brigade official said.
The chief PRO of the Central Railway said, “We have stopped Harbour line up and down services from 4.25pm as a precautionary measure owing to fire near the Bandra station on the east side.”
