BENGALURUL: The Election Commission of Karnataka in a midnight brief confirmed that they have recovered 9,746 Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) from an apartment in Bengaluru’s Jalahalli area of Raja Rajeshwari Nagar constituency.

Sanjiv Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer for Karnataka, said that as per the preliminary verification the ID cards are of actual electors and appears to be prima facie genuine. “However the significance of the counterfoils can only be verified after due investigation,” he added.

The authorities also found five laptops, printers, two steel trunks in the flat.

Kumar said the voter population had increased by 44,837 this year and the elector-population ratio is 74.43. During last special summary revision 25,825 additions are there, 19,012 additions were done during continuous updation. There have been total deletions of 8817 person.

“FIR has been registered & further investigations will be conducted. The situation is being closely monitored by the Election Commission & appropriate action will be taken”, Kumar said.


BJP demands countermanding of polling in Raja Rajeshwari Nagar

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that the election in Raja Rajeshwari Nagar be countermanded.

Speaking to media over the matter, BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “Congress is losing public support and they are trying hard to rig the upcoming elections in Karnataka by undemocratic ways. So, we demand countermanding of polls in Raj Rajeshwari Nagar constituency.”

He further alleged a huge amount of cash was recovered from Badami constituency, from where chief minister Siddaramaiah is contesting the Karnataka polls, and asked the Election Commission (EC) to deploy special election officer in Badami.
