The 2018 battle for the Karnataka assembly election between the Congress, the BJP is being viewed as a precursor to the next general elections. Clearly, the election is crucial for both the Congress and the BJP. For the Congress, a pale shadow of its former self at the national level, winning back Karnataka is critical, as it is one of the four states where it still is in power. For the BJP, a win in Karnataka would give it an entry into south India and effectively evict the Congress from yet other state. The JD (S), the third player in the fray, is a formidable opponent to the national parties in the state, and could well play the role of kingmaker. Voting for 222 of the 224-seat Karnataka assembly was held on May 12, 2018. Polling in one seat was deferred and election in another seat was countermanded following the death of a candidate. The Karnataka assembly election results will be announced on May 15, 2018. Follow the live blog for Karnataka election exit poll results.
