Rajnath Singh, Minister of home affairs
Singh told reporters that he is in favour of ensuring proper justice to the family of the 8-year-old girl, who was raped and killed in Kathua three months ago. “The victims’ family should get justice,” the minister said when asked about the case.
Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh chief minister
“Investigation has been handed over to the CBI. I believe the CBI would have arrested the MLA also. Our government will not compromise on this, no matter how influential the accused is, he will not be spared,” he said.
Smriti Irani, BJP minister
“Rahul Gandhi earlier stood in support of Gayatri Prasad Prajapati. It’s just his compulsion to take a stand this time but Amethi knows the truth. I have faith that justice will be provided,” she said.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Congress leader
“Those who raised slogans in support of the rapists should immediately be suspended. We demand an answer from the government on Kathua and Unnao. Rahul Gandhi was recognising the pain of the country when he went for march last night. Where are the tweets and media bites of Smriti Irani and Sushma Swaraj on this heinous crime?” He questioned.
Maneka Gandhi, BJP MP
“Media expects the investigation to be complete in two minutes, action is being taken by the state governments. Also, we are contemplating an amendment in law which awards death penalty to rapists of minors below 12 years of age,” she said.
Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress leader
“Yes he(Jammu Bar Association chief BS Slathia) was my polling agent, and also Lal Singh (BJP J&K minister) was in Congress, they were secular then but BJP has vitiated the atmosphere so badly in J&K that these individuals have now turned communal,” Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress
Omar Abdullah, National Conference leader
The National Conference leader demanded that the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti should ask the BJP ministers who supported the killers of the rape victim to resign.

Meenakshi Lekhi, BJP MP
BJP MP accused the Opposition of communalising the Kathua and Unnao rape incidents, and said they should not have protested until an investigation was conducted.
“Party has already condemned this act, 2 individuals (BJP J&K ministers) were misled and misguided by people. Lesson to them is not to believe one side or the other and let the law take its course. You see their (Opposition) plan, first shout ‘minority’, then ‘Dalit Dalit’, and now ‘women women’ and then try to somehow fix blame of state issues on the centre. All this while ignoring the strict action being taken by state governments,” she said.
RP Sharma, BJP MP
“The guilty should be publicly hanged or shot dead. There should be no leniency with rapists. Even if the guilty is found to be a BJP member, he should be executed publicly,” Sharma who is a BJP MP from Assam said.
BS Slathia, President Jammu Bar Association
“We have always maintained that the guilty should be punished and fair probe should be carried out, by CBI. There is a misinformation campaign underway against us, it’s an attempt to communally divide Jammu,” he said.
“#UnnaoCase…as a parent my heart screams in pain…how much more will we tolerate as a society…how long will we be silent to such acts of communalising crimes… when will our conscience wake up to question… to fight… and put an end to this communal narrative #justasking,” he tweeted.
