KOTTAYAM: Hadiya, the woman in the centre of the conversion controversy, is not being held captive at her home, her father K M Ashokan said from his home near Vaikom on Monday. He was reacting to the Supreme Court directive early in that day that the father produce her before it on November 27.
Ashokan said that he accepts the Indian Constitution and court judgment. He also said that he is ready to produce his daughter anywhere. I don’t have any objection in my daughter following any religion. Nobody stops Hadiya from going out of the house. She herself has decided not to go out.
Ashokan termed as ‘false propaganda’ the allegations that he has kept his daughter under captivity. “My house is surrounded by cops. There are two women police personnel who are on duty inside the house. My daughter is free to go anywhere with police protection. I have told that to her. However, she is not interested in going out. She is not a small kid to force her to go out,” he said.
He also said that right from the beginning of the case, a false propaganda has been unleashed against him and his family. He alleged this was as a planned move.
“I have no objection in my daughter marrying from any religion. But this group has terrorist connection and I have informed this to the court,” he said.
He also said that he was hoping that the court would take the right decision in the issue.
The woman, a Hindu, had converted to Islam and later married a man called Shafin Jahan. It is alleged that the woman was recruited by Islamic State’s mission in Syria and Jahan was only a stooge.
