NEW DELHI: Ace shuttler Kidambi Srikanth created history by becoming the first Indian player to win four Super Series titles in a year with straight games victory over Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in the French Open final on Sunday.

Srikanth dished out yet another superlative performance as he outplayed qualifier Nishimoto 21-14, 21-13 in a lop-sided final that lasted just 34 minutes. With this victory, Srikanth also became the fourth male player in the world to bag four or more Super Series titles in a year.

Srikanth started the opening game on a shaky note, conceding four straight points to be at 5-9 before winning six consecutive points to go into the break with a 11-9 lead. After that, he never looked back and held on to his lead to wrap the first game in just 16 minutes.

It was a one way traffic in the second game as Srikanth raced to 5-0 before staying ahead 11-5 at the break. He eventually sealed the game 21-13 to bag his sixth Super Series title overall.

Srikanth, who clinched titles at Indonesia, Australia and Denmark, saw off compatriot HS Prannoy 14-21, 21-19, 21-18 in the semi-finals to become the first Indian to reach five summit clashes in a season.
