NEW DELHI: A day after Congress president Rahul Gandhi said he’s ready to hold the Prime Minister’s (PM) post, PM Narendra Modi called him “arrogant” and “entitled”.

“I am going to be PM!”. Declaring oneself a Prime Minister like this, isn’t it an evidence of arrogance? It displays his ego,” said Modi today in a campaign rally in Kolar in Karnataka.

The Congress hit back, asking whether Modi was the only one who had the right to be Prime Minister.

“Is Narendra Modi the only one with the right to be PM?” asked Congress spokesman Anand Sharma.

On the campaign trail yesterday, Rahul was asked if he was ready to become the PM, and he indicated he is.

“Well, it depends… it depends on how well the Congress does in the election. I mean, if it emerges as the biggest party, yes,” he said. The exchange came during an interactive session with prominent Bengaluru citizens organised by Samruddha Bharat Foundation.

Modi called this a display of the Congress president’s ego.

“He did not care about others who are standing in line. Did not care about other coalition partners. There are leaders waiting for 40 years, (yet) he came all of a sudden and placed his bucket, and said I will become the Prime Minister,” said Modi said during the final lap of his campaign blitz in the election-bound state, which goes to the polls on Saturday.

Yesterday, Rahul also said the BJP is set to lose in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

“I am pretty convinced that Modi is not going to be the PM. I can see it in his face. He knows it,” the Congress chief said.
